Dr. Pires' graduated from CUNY Hunter College with degrees in studio art and biochemistry. Through these studies, she discovered her passion for pre-veterinary medicine, which was further fueled by her experiences in research, lab animal care, and small animal general practice. These experiences sparked her enthusiasm for advancing biomedical research to benefit both human and animal health, as well as advocating for the well-being of animals that are vital for medical progress.
Dr. Pires enrolled in a combined DVM and PhD program at Colorado State University. Her PhD focused on cell and molecular biology with an emphasis on cancer research. Dr. Pires graduated from veterinary school, receiving the Bob Rosenthal Senior Student Award for her outstanding contributions to clinical oncology. Her dual DVM/PhD training has equipped her with a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of human and animal health, as well as the critical role that veterinarians play in advancing biomedical research.
After completing her veterinary education, Dr. Pires pursued a one-year clinical fellowship in lab animal medicine, further honing her skills and expertise in this specialized field. Currently, she works as a lab animal veterinarian in the pharmaceutical industry, where she applies her knowledge to ensure the welfare of animals involved in research while contributing to the development of life-saving treatments.

Dr. Donnini enjoys spending time with her partner, Connor, and their pets. She loves hiking, and reading, and is a massive sports enthusiast. One of the highlights of her life was meeting Peyton Manning while touring the Vatican in Rome.
During her time in veterinary school, Dr. Donnini worked in the small animal anesthesia department, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a critical area of veterinary practice. Her potential was recognized by Bayer Animal Health, who selected her as their student representative. Additionally, Dr. Donnini's academic achievements were honored with membership in the Phi Zeta honor society.
Following the completion of her DVM, Dr. Donnini continued to build her expertise through advanced training. She completed a rigorous one-year small animal medicine and surgical internship at VCA West Los Angeles, further honing her clinical skills in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Driven by her passion for internal medicine, she then pursued a residency in small animal internal medicine at Iowa State University.
Dr. Donnini's dedication and expertise in internal medicine were recognized when she achieved diplomate status within the ACVIM upon completion of her residency. Dr. Cucui is French and Romanian and speaks both languages. In her spare time, she can be found doing aerial silks or hiking in national parks with her husband.
Dr. Cucui has been involved in the veterinary field for 15+ years. She worked at a veterinary clinic in NYC before attending Cornell, where she earned her BA in classics. Dr. Cucui spent her summers in college volunteering at a Romanian veterinary hospital and dog shelter as well as working at a zootherapy-focused equestrian center in Quebec. During the school year, Dr. Cucui would conduct independent studies examining veterinary practices in various cultures and historical periods, including Romania, ancient Greece, Rome, and India. Alongside her academic pursuits, Dr. Cucui showcased her leadership skills by captaining and coaching her rugby team.
Continuing her education at Cornell's veterinary school, Dr. Cucui focused primarily on shelter medicine. Her dedication to serving underserved communities was evident through her participation in Rural Area Veterinary Services (RAVS) and Rural Veterinary Experience Teaching (RVETS) trips, providing medical and surgical care to cats, dogs, and horses in areas with limited access to veterinary services.
Dr. Cucui's innovative spirit shone through her research with the Alliance for Contraception in Cats & Dogs, where she developed a novel ear tag for free-roaming animals. This project earned her funding through Cornell's Expanding Horizons International Education Program, allowing her to conduct field trials in Romania. During her clinical year, Dr. Cucui gained experience through shelter-related externships, including forensics at the ASPCA and mobile spay/neuter services at the University of Illinois. This comprehensive training prepared her for a career dedicated to animal welfare and shelter medicine.
After earning her DVM, Dr. Cucui's professional journey took her to various settings, each contributing to her expertise in shelter medicine. She practiced at a private, non-profit animal shelter in Buffalo, NY, where she also taught veterinary students from Lincoln Memorial University. Her commitment to urban animal welfare led her back to NYC, where she worked at the city's municipal shelter before pursuing a fellowship in emergency medicine.
Currently, Dr. Cucui runs her own relief practice, specializing in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter services, shelter medicine, and emergency care for various non-profits, corporations, and independent practices. Her long-term goals include becoming board-certified in shelter medicine and opening a spay/neuter clinic in rural Transylvania.

In her free time, Dr. Nico enjoys playing badminton, volleyball, and archery, as well as gardening and baking. Since moving to Phoenix, she has become a novice hiker and is loving every moment of exploring the great outdoors.
Dr. Nico has an MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. She is currently conducting clinical and translational cerebrovascular neurosurgery research under Dr. Michael Lawton at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Her clinical work involves risk stratification and outcomes of various hemorrhagic cerebrovascular diseases, while her translational research focuses on novel single-cell RNA sequencing of these same pathologies. In addition to cerebrovascular research, Dr. Nico has extensive experience in global neurosurgery, pediatric brain tumors and epilepsy, and the relationship between domestic violence and traumatic brain injuries.
While attending UIC, Dr. Nico was involved in many research, advocacy, and volunteering efforts. She has over 30 publications and oral presentations at national conferences in neurosurgery, neurology, urology, obstetrics & gynecology, and female sexual medicine. She has served as a digital media intern for the Center for Global Health, a medical student advisory board member for Safe Living Space - an organization raising awareness of brain injury secondary to domestic violence, student ambassador for the AANS/CNS section on Pediatric Neurosurgery, student leader of Women in Medicine Summit, and President of the Chicago Cancer Society.
Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Nico spent a gap year at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine working as a clinical research coordinator on a peripheral artery disease clinical trial. Even before that, she graduated first-generation with General and Neuroscience Departmental Honors from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Furthermore, she completed her entire sophomore year of undergraduate studies at the University of Oxford in Oxford, United Kingdom studying under the Biochemistry Pre-Medicine Program.
Regarding her tutoring experience, Dr. Nico served as a study consultant for Academic Advising, helping undergraduate students improve their academic skills at Johns Hopkins University. At UIC College of Medicine, Dr. Nico continues to work as a Peer Education Program Tutor and Block Lead for the Office of Student Affairs, leading one-on-one and group review sessions of pre-clinical curriculum content as well as USMLE test prep.

Dr. Lee was a saber fencer for eight years and was on the Division III NCAA Men’s Fencing team at Vassar College.
Before medical school, Dr. Lee graduated with departmental honors in Biology from Vassar College, where he was also Captain of the EMS agency. During his gap year, he worked as a research assistant at Northwell Health in Thoracic Surgery, managing a lung cancer database and publishing a paper on the benefits of robotic surgery for lung cancer. During his last year in medical school, he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for excellence in academic performance and leadership. He will also be graduating with a Certificate of Special Proficiency in Medical Ultrasound.
Dr. Lee has always had a passion for medical education and helping students achieve their goals. He has mentored numerous pre-medical students at all points in the process of preparing to apply to medical school, from first-year college students to set them up favorably for the future to students actively in the application process. Dr. Hameed's journey began in Southern California, where she grew up and later graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in psychobiology. She then went on to achieve her MD from the University of Texas, Houston, where she continued to demonstrate her leadership skills and commitment to serving others.
As a mentor to pre-med students, Dr. Hameed is known for her warm, caring, and passionate approach. She has mentored numerous college students through monthly sessions, providing guidance and support as they navigate the challenging path to medical school. Her experience as a tutor in general chemistry for two years in college and foundational science for two years in medical school further demonstrates her commitment to helping others succeed.

Dr. Im is an avid outdoor enthusiast who cycled across the country before dental school! Her recent hobbies include crocheting and golfing, albeit she has room for improvement in the latter. She cherishes time spent with her dog, Denver, and her husband. Dr. Im is also a self-proclaimed food critic who loves to travel with her husband to sample diverse cuisines.
With a keen understanding of what dental schools seek in candidates, she applied to and was accepted into every seven-year program she applied to. She has been involved in the interview process at Penn Dental and continues to participate in alumni interviews for the school.
Dr. Im's academic achievements earned her a Dean's scholarship for all four years of her dental education. Her pursuit of excellence did not stop there; during dental school, she applied for and was awarded a competitive scholarship program that allowed her to concurrently pursue an MPH degree at the Perelman School of Medicine, with full tuition covered by Penn Dental. Dr. Im was also awarded a full dental school scholarship through the Air Force, which required her to serve after graduation.

She was accepted into Kansas State’s Early Admissions program to veterinary school during her undergraduate studies. While pursuing her DVM, she was accepted into a dual-degree program and completed her PhD in diagnostic medicine and pathobiology. Through her studies, Dr. Seger has developed a passion for making meaningful research impacts on animal diseases of human importance.

Dr. Lee earned his dual BA degrees in social welfare and East Asian languages & cultures—Japanese at the University of California, Berkeley, and his DMD degree, Cum Laude, at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Lee's commitment to whole-person care for underserved populations stems from his interdisciplinary studies, social work, and humanistic approach to dental medicine. His diverse clinical experience spans various organizations, including a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), a large Dental Support Organization (DSO), a pediatric dental clinic, and private dental offices. Driven by a pragmatic idealism, Dr. Lee is passionate about integrating the latest dental techniques and technologies into his practice and constantly seeks innovative ways to further develop his skill set.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Lee is a passionate artist and volunteer. He expresses his creative talents through his lifelong hobbies—Piano, Pottery, and Photography. Dr. Alakhras has watched every Marvel movie and show that has been released. During undergrad, he averaged seven Chipotle meals a week. He also owns a soccer ball signed by Zidane.
Dr. Alakhras, a proud Arab American, offers a unique multicultural perspective to students. Born in Michigan and raised in Abu Dhabi, UAE, he returned to the US to pursue his dream of becoming a physician. After graduating from Oakland University with a Bachelor's in biology and summa cum laude honors, Dr. Alakhras matriculated to medical school.
He attended OUWB, where he scored in the 99th percentile on both Step 1 and 2 exams, positioning himself to graduate in the top quartile of his class. He worked as a mentor at his university for many years, advising students on how to manage their timelines and grad school applications. He is also a big advocate for community service and has put in countless hours volunteering in underserved areas around him and globally. Her exceptional performance during her dental studies was recognized through her induction into the Honos Civicus Society and the receipt of prestigious scholarships, such as the ADEA GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Preventative Dentistry Scholarship and the Dr. Alfred and Mrs. D. Following her dental education, Dr. Fadie completed her specialty training in pediatric dentistry at NYU Langone, further honing her skills in working with young patients. During her residency, she was selected for the Rhode Island Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Disabilities Program interdisciplinary Fellowship program.

Dr. Gomez is a stand-up comedian in his free time.
Dr. Gomez began his journey at Stanford, where he graduated with a BA in human evolutionary biology. While there, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation. He managed the Pacific Free Clinic, creating a course on the impact of climate change on human health that was integral to changing the curriculum at Stanford.
